Kemtec®. Using simulated reagents and pre-sensitized microplates, students follow the ELISA procedure employed by medical laboratories to test for the presence of serum antibodies against the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) test is used for the initial screening of human blood to identify individuals who may be infected by HIV. This kit contains no actual blood or blood products and none is required. Eight samples of simulated blood sera are included with brief personal sketches of those 8 fictitious persons having their blood evaluated. Materials are sufficient for 3 teams of 2 to 4 students to simulate the ELISA test on all 8 sera samples. With instructions and background information.
