Grades 9-12.
  • Construct a food chain using microorganisms
  • Learn how energy is transferred in a food chain
  • Examine loss of energy over different trophic levels
Students examine microorganisms and create a food chain based on observed feeding patterns. They explore energy transfer through different trophic levels of a food chain using a simulation activity. Using their finding that all energy is not transferred, students calculate the energy flow through the food chain they created. Kit accommodates 30 students working in pairs.
